In this installment of “Getting To Know Your Bad Bitches” we talk to Amy McDaniel. Amy McDaniel lives in Atlanta with her dog, Annette. Her stories, poems, and essays have appeared in Tin House, PANK, The Agriculture Reader, Saveur, Alimentum, and elsewhere. Selected Adult Lessons, her chapbook, came out in 2010 from Agnes Fox Press and promptly sold out. Now she is finishing a novel about cheese, wine, and coincidences.

OCCUPATION: I met a woman who said she was a homemaker. She lived alone in a 1-bedroom condo and volunteer-coached track at a nearby high school. I admire that. She threw the worst Oscar party imaginable: dry snacks, no talking during the show. There was a kind of rigor to its terribleness.
CHILDHOOD NICKNAME: Yay *see note (*note: this was my bowling nickname)
A SECRET FANTASY: To be bed-ridden (but not too awfully sick, just kind of achey and weak).
UNUSUAL FACT: All of us would like to be delighted.
PET PEEVE: money
I’D LIKE TO MEET: They did a study of Larry King’s interviews to see who adjusted the timbre of their voice (unconsciously) to his, and vice-versa. King adjusted his voice to more-distinguished-than-him guests like Elizabeth Taylor. Dan Quayle adjusted his voice very dramatically to Larry King’s.
PERSONAL MOTTO: Sub vino, sub rosa.
MOST PROUD OF: hair
REPUTATION IN HIGH SCHOOL: Sterling.
THREE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE ME: dicey (in a good way), slow (neutral), smiles a lot (neutral)
