NEXT BIG THING

by jayneoconnor

I (Jayne O’Connor) was tagged in “The Next Big Thing” a self interview for writers with recent or forthcoming books. It’s like that survey you took on MYSPACE but for writers!!!!

I’m really bad a timing and doing things on time. But every Wednesday people post things, and then tag people, and then tag people, and I was very lucky to be tagged and hope I don’t eff this up, and then so on. Tyler Gobble tagged me, and he was tagged by Mark Neely, and I am tagging some bad ass people with these questions about their books. eeeeeem k.

(this can also be found on hydeatl.com)

What is the working title of the book?

When You Meet The Devil Tip Your Hat

Where did the idea come from for the book?

I have enjoyed reading folklore and fairytales since I was a child. I stumbled upon a book calledSometimes Strange Things Still Happen at a used bookstore about two years ago. It inspired me to write my own fairytales and folk stories.

I was particularly interested in the stories that dealt with interactions with the devil because, well, that mo fo is interesting as… well… you know.

What genre does your book fall under?

I suppose fantasy and short fiction.

What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?

If I choose one story- and I am (“In Parts”)- I would choose Jessica Beal to play the frustrated ex dancer because of her roles in Flashdance  (as a dancer), and the L Word (as a frustrated woman). The fact that a body double did all the dancing in Flashdance only makes the part more fitting, since my short story is about body transplants.

Seth Greene would play the nervous salesman because he’s my favorite werewolf. (Disclaimer: There are no werewolves in my book, yet.)

What is the one sentence synopsis of your book?

Who are you fooling?

How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?

Forever and counting….

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

It might have been Lucifer himself….

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

ALF is in it…maybe…I might write him out… he’s hard to work with… Let’s just say he’s going to be in it..

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Safety Third is my savior.

My tagged writers for next Wednesday are

Johnny Carroll and Laura Straub
